GetSafe Medical Alert

WHO IS GETSAFE?

GetSafe is a medical alert provider that is a part of the Bay Alarm Family of Companies that also owns Bay Alarm Medical. GetSafe was started by a group of medical alarm industry veterans in 2016 and they have a combined industry experience of 30+ years. Currently, GetSafe is located in Concord, California. Their initial focus was the home security business, and they have since shifted their focus to dedicate to the medical alert side of the business. They no longer sell home security systems. GetSafe’s medical alert offering is completely wireless and focuses on voice activated alarms, which means you do not have to wear a medical alert pendant. They pride themselves on removing the hassle of professional installation, not having long-term contracts, and their service being available in all 50 states. They are also UL-Certified. However, those features are not unique to the medical alert industry.

REVIEW SUMMARY

GetSafe is a medical alert system that you do not have to wear. There are no lanyards or wristbands (unless you choose that option). It is designed to work around you, not on your person. Their modern looking equipment is voice-enabled. You can get help by either pushing a button, pulling a cord or simply calling out “Call 911.” They suggest placing their wall buttons in any place in your loved one’s home that there is a risk of falling, such as the bathroom or stairs. If you prefer traditional medical alert systems, they do offer a button with automatic fall detection. The whole system is run on ATT&T’s 4G LTE network so neither the internet or a telephone landline are needed.

GetSafe’s system packages can include some or all of the following components:

In-Home Base Unit: Compact and modern looking speaker that features a high fidelity ultra-sensitive microphone so you’re loved one can use clear 2-way voice. They claim it will pick up sound even several yards away. Does not require a landline.

Voice Activated Mini Console Wall Button: These small wireless devices can be placed around the home in high traffic or fall risk areas. You can push the button, pull the cord or say “call 911” to be connected to emergency help. These are offered as an add-on to the in-home base unit.

Standard Wall Button: These wall buttons can be placed anywhere around the home and help will be on the way when the button is pressed.

Medical Alert Wearables: If you prefer wearing your medical alert button, GetSafe offers one that is 100% waterproof and comes with automatic fall detection as an upgrade.

4G LTE Mobile Help Button: Get on-the-go GPS coverage with GetSafe’s Mobile Help Button with 4G LTE nationwide coverage utilizing AT&T’s network. It is water resistant and has a battery that lasts up to 120 hours.

Caregiver Tracking App: Get Safe does also offer a Caregiver Tracking App for an additional monthly fee.

There are four system packages that GetSafe offers:

1. The Starter package which includes the Base Unit, one Voice-Activated Wall Button and one Lanyard Button. This is suggested for a home with 0-1 bedroom.

2. The Standard package which includes the Base Unit, two Voice-Activated Wall Buttons, one Standard Wall Button and one Lanyard Button. This is suggested for a home with 2-3 bedrooms.

3. The Select package which includes the Base Unit, three Voice-Activated Wall Buttons, two Standard Wall Buttons and one Lanyard Button. This is suggested for a home with 4-5 bedrooms.

4. A Build Your Own package for a fully customized solution.

*You can add-on equipment to any of the above packages.

GetSafe vs. Bay Alarm

Although GetSafe and Bay Alarm offer two different medical alert products, , they do share a few common policies, since Bay Alarm owns. GetSafeBoth offer a 30 days risk free trial with affordable pricing structures. They also both utilize a TMA 5-Diamond Certified monitoring center. While Bay Alarm offers a more traditional wearable medical alert, GetSafe has a more modern, voice-activated option. They both utilize the Mobile on-the-go help button. When comparing the two, Bay Alarm is more well-rounded and less expensive if you are looking for traditional coverage.

PROS

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT GETSAFE

GPS Mobile Medical Alert– The Mobile monitoring unit is a great option for those who want protection outside of the home.

24-Hour Support – The monitoring center staff are available 24 hours per day to assist with questions.

No Long-Term Contract – You can cancel at any time and they offer a 30-day risk free trial. Their service is month-to-month.

Fall Detection Options – Considering one in four aging adults falls each year, a common medical alert feature such as automatic fall detection, would be a smart add-on to your medical alert system. GetSafe does offer this additional service.

TMA Monitoring Center – Their website states that their monitoring centers are TMA Five Diamond Certified which is a real plus.

WHAT WE DISLIKE ABOUT GETSAFE

System Relies Heavily on Being Able To Speak in an Emergency – Although the system helps to solve the problem of your loved one not wanting to wear a medical alert, it does require them to speak in an emergency situation, unless they are near a button or pull cord. If your mom or dad has a heavy accent or timid voice, consider adding the optional fall detection pendant.

No Activity Monitoring – Activity monitoring typically requires the user to check-in with the system by pressing a button once every 24 hours or automatically checked with motion sensors and door contacts. This is very beneficial as it allows you to know that your loved one is active and about each day.

No Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detection – Both are important features to have in your home and GetSafe used to offer these as an add-on to your service. Many medical alert companies do not offer these devices.

Equipment Fees– With most medial alert companies eliminating equipment fees, having users pay upfront can get costly. You do however own the equipment as opposed to leasing it. With technology rapidly changing, we do not prefer purchasing medical alert equipment. Plus, it may not work with any other medical alert providers so there’s no real advantage.

No Automatic Testing – Automatic testing gives you peace of mind that your system is in working order. We suggest you test your system manually every week. This may be difficult for some seniors to remember but is important to do.

No Discount for Advanced Payments – Although they don’t give a discount on services when paying monthly, they do offer free perks like free expedited shipping or a free lock box.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

How do I get my GetSafe system to call for help? – Simply say “Call 9-1-1” two times and it will trigger a call to GetSafe’s emergency help line. This can be an issue for those with issues speaking or if they are unconscious.

Does GetSafe offer automatic fall detection? Yes, you can choose to wear the lanyard and upgrade to their automatic fall detection service.

Do I own the GetSafe medical alert equipment? Yes. When you pay the upfront equipment fee, you are purchasing the system and only paying for the monthly monitoring service.

Do I need a landline to use GetSafe’s medical alert system in my home?
No. A Landline is not required and you can utilize the system nationwide in any area that is covered by AT&T’s 4G LTE cellular network.

Which GetSafe package should I choose for my home?
It depends on the size of your home. If you live in a one-bedroom, the starter package will be perfect for you.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT GETSAFE

GetSafe is not BBB accredited but they do have an A+ rating at the time of this review. GetSafe has reviews on their website, however we question their validity. A few of the reviews have repeating scripted language such as saying their service is “the most robust home security app on the market.” We suggest looking elsewhere for honest reviews on their service.

Since GetSafe is newer to the marketplace it can be tough to find genuine reviews. On Trustpilot.com they have a 4.0 star average out of 5 stars with over 2,221 reviews. 66% of users rate their experience with GetSafe as excellent and 17% rate it as bad. Most users like the sleek equipment and easy setup. A few complaints were had about the customer service and follow-up.

BOTTOM LINE

We like the fact that GetSafe helps to solve the problem with seniors not wanting to physically wear a medical alert device. But what if your loved one has a weak voice, strong accent or can’t speak in an emergency? You should consider adding the fall detection pendant for added peach of mind. GetSafe’s equipment is sleek and modern looking and is completely wireless. It does not require professional installation so users can simply install themselves or watch helpful videos on GetSafe’s website.

GetSafe offers a well-rounded amount of medical alert device options such as fall detection, voice-activated wall buttons, in-home and on-the-go protection. Their monthly monitoring price is very competitive for their basic service however can add up quickly when adding on additional services such as automatic fall detection and the GPS mobile unit.

We also like that there are no contracts with GetSafe and their pricing is upfront and well explained on their website. Per GetSafe their in-home range is quite large, covering 1,300 ft plus you can extend this with the use of wall buttons.

This system may not be good for those who live in rural areas or areas where there is spotty AT&T coverage. Keep in mind when you pay the equipment fees, they are yours to keep although there is a 30-day grace period to try it out for free. If you need to place a call to GetSafe’s customer service line, you can expect friendly service without a pushy sales agenda.

Although our experience with this company had these results, your experience may be different. If you’re interested in this company’s services, contact them to judge for yourself.
